As well as the resources provided throughout the weblog, here are some resources for SMARTboards and Simulations and Models.
SMARTboards:
Bang on Time is a fun game for students around S1 and S2 that can be used either at the end of a lesson on Time, or as a “recap” at the beginning of the lesson.
A Maths Dictionary for Kids not only provides definitions for different maths terms, but examples, so that the students can see these terms in context.
i Know That has a range of interactive literacy tasks that can be suited to every age. Some very challenging work in there. Great for Early Finishers!
Learning Vocabulary Fun is a good site if you’re after IWB games for free time. Be careful with advertisements as some curious children might click on them!
CBeebies is a BBC site that has a range of activities based on their programs. I particularly like the online stories as all students can participate, however, some stories may be tricky to follow as they use alot of different sound clips on this site.
SFSKIDS is a children-friendly website for the San Francisco Orchestra. A great introduction to classical music with a fun, upbeat twist.
Topmarks is a great directory of activities for SMARTboards. Activities are seperated into different learning areas and the site is regularly updated. Make sure to check out the “Bible for Children”. Also, the Art is worth a look, with activities about different artforms and artists for students as young as ES1 and S1.
Simulation and Modeling:
Engineering Interact is a great site as it has some really extensive, challenging simulations. The graphics may seem slightly dated, but the site is very instructive which means the children can do this, pretty much, on their own!
The Solar System Jigsaw is a quick model that can be utilised as a quick assessment tool or as a good introduction to a unit.
Shambles Simulations provides an extensive list of simulations, many based on science. Some simulations you need to pay for, which I have found, is very much the case for many simulations.
The Learning Federation – a database that is accessed through ‘Blackboard’, it is full of great digital resources, including simulations and models, relating to all KLA’s and grades K-12. This database is only available, for free, while attending ACU. Upon leaving the university, you will have to pay for access.
